Movements don’t always start with a plan. Sometimes they start with a Facebook post on a Thursday afternoon.
A call to sport, nothing more
On 24 August 2017, Elyes Grar publishes a Facebook message encouraging people to take up sport and promoting running within the Running Club of La Marsa. The intention is simple: get the people around him moving.
Nothing that day hints at the founding of a national association.
The question that changed everything
Among the replies to the post, one question caught the eye on the morning of Saturday 26 August:
“Is there a club for walking?”
It was asked by Amel Menjour. One question among many, seemingly. In reality, the founding act.
The starting point of a story
Two days after that post, the La Marsa Walking Club would exist on Facebook. Three days after, the first walk would be announced. Eight years later, the movement would count clubs across much of Tunisia and beyond.
All of it began with a Facebook status and a question in the comments. That is often how serious things get started.
